User Researcher (Qualitative)

Position Summary

This is an excellent opportunity for a talented, ambitious individual interested in user research to be part of a small, committed and professional team.
The role requires the candidate to be based in London. However, we offer the opportunity for the candidate to work remotely. The team will meet in-person in central London a couple times a week and the candidate will be expected to join those meetings.
The candidate will also be expected to be onsite at the research venues when projects are taking place. Apart from that the candidate will be expected to collaborate and meet regularly via video chat and other digital means. Our research also takes place internationally and the candidate should expect the role to include travel. Currently this averages about 2-3 nights a month in a European city.
Ultimately we are looking for an enthusiastic User Researcher who will champion our customers’ and partners’ needs, to help create the best possible user experiences.

Your role:

As a user researcher, you’ll be working as part of a multidisciplinary team to scope, carry out, and communicate research projects to your team as well as Gutsy Ninja’s clients.
You’ll be focusing on questions that are best answered through qualitative research methods, such as depth interviews, focus groups, diary studies, or ethnography. You will generate insights based on rich data to inform product decisions, direction and strategy.
You will be energised by lean user research, to help quickly generate hypotheses and validate or disprove them. More than just helping us answer an isolated series of questions, you will take on the creation of experience maps and personas to help immerse us in user goals and journeys.
While the role is focused on qualitative research methods, a working knowledge of quantitative techniques would be an asset.
You will be an enthusiastic self-starter, able to work in teams or autonomously, and someone who always has their finger on the pulse of what is going on in the world of eCommerce and Gaming!

Your responsibilities:
  • Working closely with the research team to ensure we’re asking the right questions and that research outcomes can be fed into on-going product development.
  • Advising on suitable research methods, with a bias towards lean methods.
  • Working with third party agencies to recruit the right people to participate in research.
  • Running all phases of research, including development of discussion guides, facilitating interviews or moderating usability tests, and analysing and sharing findings.
  • Synthesising your own research and data from other sources (such as market research surveys, expert reviews, and analytics data) into personas and experience maps.
  • Sharing insights regularly and visibly to various stakeholders and teams.
  • Manage your own interviewing and usability testing resources, including equipment and testing software.
  • Helping shape and evolve our user research processes and best practices.
  • Help lead client relationships to ensure they're on-board with our work and the long-term relationship.
  • Working closely with the CPO when pitching for new business.
  • Preparing high quality proposals and research plans for new clients / projects.
  • Mentoring and managing interns as and when required.
  • Assist the management team at Gutsy Ninja in scoping and identifying new product and service opportunities.
  • Providing general logistical/organisational support to the team as required incl. flights, accommodation and venue bookings.
Your experience:
  • You have at least 2 years of industry experience, with hands-on user research experience either client-side or agency.
  • You have worked in an agile environment.
  • Experience in a variety of research methods: face-to-face user interviews, remote usability testing, online surveys, etc.
  • A detailed understanding of the full UCD lifecycle and how user research fits within it.
  • Ideally, you have at least a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Human-Computer Interaction, Sociology, or a related field.
  • You are a self-starter that likes to take initiative to improve up on the status quo.
  • Understanding/experience of quantitative research methods is a bonus! .
Key Skills Required for the Role:
  • Excellent command of the English language.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills .
  • Excellent grasp of Microsoft Office products (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Strong analytical skills .

  • An ability to prioritise work and complete tasks with quick turnaround times.
Nice to have:
  • Experience working in the iGaming industry.
  • Experience of playing video games, mobile games, social games
  • Experience working in a start-up environment.
  • Previous Experience with Usability Testing Tools (e.g. Lookback, UserZoom, OBS) is a bonus.
  • Experience with web analytics to put your qualitative insights into quantitative context is a bonus.
